Dear MDYHS Family,

As you know from the news across the country, many policemen and women are experiencing terrible morale due to recent events.  We have had the opportunity at MDYHS to show our Hakarat HaTov to the brave heroes who protect us and care for us - by delivering cards with our warm expressions of support to our local precincts, by having a special assembly at MDYHS wherein our local State Assemblyman, City Councilman, and Borough President will be speaking and we will present tributes to the captains of our local precincts, and by organizing a rally next month with hundreds and hundreds of students from schools in the area to show our solidarity with the police.
Well... we have an opportunity this coming Sunday, b'ezrat HaShem, to show our support in the most meaningful, special, and valuable way possible - along with creating a huge Kiddush HaShem.  I refer to the opportunity to attend the funeral for the slain police officer Wenjian Liu.  There are going to be huge delegations from every community present - including our own community, and we have the chance to show the police - and the world - that we cherish our police heroes and value the awesome work that they do.
The funeral is scheduled to take place this Sunday, January 4th, at 10:00 am - at 1275 Sixty-Fifth Street in Brooklyn

Student who attend will be able to receive Hessed hours for this important event.  When you are there, it would be wonderful to greet the police officers that you will see, and tell them that we are sorry for their loss, and that we support them with all our hearts.  Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather - the funeral will likely last a couple of hours and it will be chilly.
As we pray for peace - all over the world - let us remember the divine imperative of Hakarat HaTov - recognizing what others have done for us, and let us join together to proclaim to the world that we support the heroes in our midst - those who look out for us even in the face of danger, day after day - our beloved policemen and women.
Thank you very much, and Shabbat Shalom.

Sincerely yours,
Rabbi Zucker
